چکیده

Introduction: The presence of salivary heterotopic tissue is uncommon and even more rarely neoplasms arise from aberrant salivary gland tissue. The finding of a benign mixed tumour (pleomorphic adenoma) in heterotopic salivary tissue along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, in the upper neck, is extremely rare. Case Report: We present the fourth case in adults patientsof ectopic mixed salivary tumour occurring in the upper neck, with regard to clinical and histological features, diagnostic aspects in relation with clinical and radiological investigations and therapeutic considerations. Conclusion: Caution must be taken in the diagnosis and treatment of the neck masses, which often present unexpected pathology to the head and neck surgeon.

Pleomorphic Adenoma of Ectopic Salivary Gland Tissue in the Upper Neck

Pleomorphic adenoma also known as “mixed tumor” is the most common neoplasm in major salivary glands. It is a benign tumor arises from the parotid gland in 84% of cases and represents 45% of parotid gland tumors [1]. Only 6.5% are found in the minor salivary glands [2]. Salivary gland tumors occurring in ectopic sites are rare and poorly understood; sometime we can find heterotopic tissue arisi...

Pleomorphic adenoma in ectopic salivary gland tissue in the neck.

A case of pleomorphic adenoma originating from ectopic salivary gland tissue (ESGT) of the upper neck is reported. A 34-year-old male patient was referred to our Department for a painless swelling in the right submandibular region. Preoperative evaluation (clinical examination, fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and imaging studies) was performed and the finding was that of pleomorphic aden...

The clinical and histopathological distribution of these tumors vary geographically. A case of a 38 yr old man with a minor salivary gland mass at chin region isreported here. The tumor invaded into the anterior ...
